Some Essential Points on Meditation and Awakening

View, Meditation and Action & The Four Noble Truths

By Lama Chokyi Gyaltsen (Lama Mark Webber)

Lama Gyaltsen reads and comments on his pithy text where he lays out essential points on how to swiftly proceed on the path to liberation. It aims to, “give you a feeling—which may not always be comfortable—of relieving and liberating the cultural, historic human ‘soup’ that clouds the view of Dharma.”

These five Dharma classes were given in-person and online at the Crystal Mountain Society retreat property on Galiano Island, B.C. in July 2024.

The way in which we unfold and cycle back and forth through the paths entering the Dharma and unfolding liberation can be described and distinguished from three different aspects: View, Meditation, and Action (Conduct). This follows a classical framework given by Guru Padmasambhava in the 8th century. Furthermore, how freedom is gradually approached and unfolded can be divided into four avenues: 1) Before entering the path of Dharma, 2) Hinayāna, 3) Mahayāna and 4) Vajrayāna. Here, Lama Gyaltsen’s method is to shed light on our key experiences as we traverse the four avenues framed as personal dialogues, hidden concepts, perspectives and life approaches. Each of these four perspectives is organized by  View, Meditation and Action connected to our ever-deepening understanding of the Four Noble Truths, the Buddha’s first teaching, the very core of all Buddhist practice and unfoldment.

Key Points for Unfolding the Dharma in an Orderly and Unified Way

Commentaries given to the in-person participants of a Dharma weekend at Egebjerg, Denmark, hosted by NYBCE, and the online participants, hosted by NYBCC.

June 14 to 16, 2024

«I kept getting asked: ‘Lama, is there one thing I should be doing?’ And I said: ‘No, not one thing. A list of things!’ So, this is a list of the key things that a spiritual practitioner of the Vajrayana would do at least every day, and if not, then at least every week. It is the rich gathering of all the kinds of practices, attitudes, and intentions that you need to bring together. And actually, we generally practice this every day when in full retreat.”

Commentaries on White Tara Practice

Audios of White Tara online-retreat December 5-6 and 19-20

“How do I start? Start with the little things. Try to put Tara into an email, try to put Tara into a text, try to put Tara into the lab, into the kitchen, try to put Tara into your footsteps, into your voice and into your manner.”
“Purify the greed, the hatred, the delusion, the pride, and jealousy, until you see the White. Until you see the purity come out, and you can say ‘My god, that is glorious!”

Commentaries on Chenrezig Practice

Audios of Chenrezig online-retreat November 7-8 and 21-22, 2020

“Every bit of Dharma Teaching is solely for the purpose of refining mental intention towards full Buddhahood—like you would refine gold, ore. When I hear comments that generation and completion stage practice and saying mantras and visualizing the deity, is difficult and is challenging: Yes, it is, as it is challenging to refine ore to get the pure gold out of it.”
